Experts evaluating the study by Microbe Management could not agree about the primary cause of poor indoor air quality. Microbe Management conducted one test to measure the effectiveness of installing a UV light aimed directly at the air conditioning coil surfaces. The test results seemed clear. The side of the air conditioning coil that had been exposed to UV light was completely clean and had no mold growth. But mold continued to grow on the side that did not have UV light exposure. This test confirmed that an antimicrobial UV light aimed at the coils properly would prevent mold growth in HVAC systems.
Where We Put This Light For Maximum Clean Air Effectiveness
Importantly, the antimicrobial UV light must be installed in the proper position. Ideally, the light should be installed directly over the air conditioning coils to prevent the growth of any dangerous allergens, such as mold and mildew. The light will prevent the mold from being distributed throughout your air duct system and, eventually, your entire home or business. If installation in that location is impossible, then you should install the UV light on the supply or return side of your ventilation system.
