Our History: Apopka Refrigeration Equipment Store
The owner began his more than two decades of experience as a restaurant manager and owner, in Apopka, where he started thinking more about refrigeration problems and solutions. In a companion business, he owned a small Apopka storefront on 436 going toward Altamonte Springs (just past Mullinex Ford). There he sold restaurant supplies and equipment as part of a family business that’s been going strong for nearly 30 years (continues today as International Restaurant Distributors, or IRD). He also coordinated ground-up restaurant build-outs, including both refrigeration and HVAC work.
Eventually he began focusing on the refrigeration service side of the business. So he started handling all commercial refrigeration and HVAC problems, not just restaurants, and not just refrigeration. He added commercial HVAC to his already strong knowledge about refrigeration. It was perhaps this beginning in refrigeration–considered the most difficult work in this industry–that led to an easy decision to focus on the commercial side of the HVAC business. He made this transition from storefront to service work mainly because he enjoyed driving in a truck, meeting other business owners, and working with his hands.
Commercial Refrigeration and HVAC Expertise
These days, Marathon Air’s customer list includes convenience stores, restaurants, office buildings, strip centers, shops, churches, hospitals, airports, and many other types of businesses. We work in Apopka and surrounding areas. We are a one-stop local shop for commercial refrigeration and HVAC repair and replacement work. Unlike many other air conditioning companies, we are focused on commercial air conditioning and refrigeration. We have performed almost 90% commercial refrigeration and air conditioning repair and sales from the day we first opened for business. Commercial work has always been our mainstyy, not an afterthought to a primarily residential service. Doing something consistently makes you better at it. So we have that asset of extensive commercial experience under our belts.
Creativity Leads to Innovative Refrigeration Solutions
Commercial refrigeration and HVAC, which we perform throughout Apopka, requires creative solutions to sometimes varied and complicated refrigeration problems. The more experienced we become, the more creative we seem to get. We believe that we have seen almost every problem that can occur with commercial refrigeration equipment. So we can usually provide cost-effective and sometimes our-of-the-ordinary solutions. For example, sometimes we replace hinges, instead of requiring you to buy new equipment, when individual refrigerator doors break. When helpful to you, we also call major refrigeration brand manufacturers. We know when this could help you. We are not afraid to ask them, or their engineers, if we might do anything different to solve difficult refrigeration equipment problems. We have also learned from similar calls over many years.
Solid Work Ethic = Solid Work Product
In Apopka, if you need to purchase new refrigeration or air conditioning systems units, our prices are affordable. We also take pride in our refrigeration repairwork. Our work ethic is strong. So when we weld a joint, we stay on the torch until the connection is strong. We seal all refrigeration connections tightly because each one matters. These are essential to proper air temperature, yet easy (hidden) areas to cut corners. This is unfortunate to consumers because this part of a good refrigeration Repair job is literally impossible for you to see.
You Can’t Really See How We Help You
In refrigeration repair, you may not be able to compare anything but prices (and those are difficult comparisons because you can’t compare apples to apples when it comes to parts and equipment). However, like most things in life, there are many make the job less optimal to save time on the refrigeration repair. The only thing we can tell you is that we have never taken that approach, even though it would be easier. We believe that would be short-sighted because our customers will know and feel the difference in the long-run.
Repeat and Referral Customers Keep Us In Business
Since day one, we have done everything within our power to provide an absolutely premier commercial refrigeration and HVAC service. We treat each customer’s refrigeration equipment like it is our own. Perhaps that is why our phone usually rings from people who have called us before. Over the years, we have regularly received praise and thanks when old customers have called with new jobs. We consider their compliments a treasure in our work. After calling us, most company owners or managers quickly realize that they will to call us again. They add us to their phone contacts. Many treat us like we are part of their business, which is how we feel. This leads to commercial refrigeration customers who call us again and again. Those types of solid business relationships have led to many referrals. Over time, these have led to what we believe is an impressive commercial customer list that still even surprises us!
Where We Work
We frequently work in Apopka. Many our commercial HVAC and refrigeration customers in Apopka have been with us for many years.
The owner of Marathon Air actually started his career working with restaurants in Apopka (he formerly owned JP’s Restaurant Supply in Apopka). He owned and operated that store front on SR 436 in Apopka, where many fellow Apopka business owners shopped in his small store for their restaurant refrigeration supplies and equipment. This gave him a unique understanding of refrigeration needs, not shared by many competitor refrigeration service companies. He started that business in 1991 and eventually turned control over to other members of his family, who still currently operate in Apopka (business absorbed and continued by International Restaurant Distributors, or IRD). The owner of Marathon Air also partially owns the Dairy Queen Restaurant on 436 in Apopka, which he managed for many years, so he understands the refrigeration needs of restaurant owners.

Quick Refrigeration Tips for Apopka Restaurants and Commercial Establishments
We understand that your product may be spoiling or customers unhappy because your refrigeration equipment is not cool enough. So we always rush to see you. In the meantime, here are some suggestions to minimize business interruption and product loss problems:
- Installing back-up pieces of your most highly used pieces of equipment is a good idea.
- Close your cooler doors (and instruct your employees to do the same)
- Sounds simple, but never forget that you can buy ice if your ice machine breaks. Also you can use ice or dry ice (as much as you can stuff into your units) to keep your cooler or freezer at least a little bit cooler until we arrive.
- Change your filters and keep your refrigeration equipment coils cleaned, which will greatly improve their energy efficiency and also lead to fewer equipment malfunctions. To make sure this happens, we recommend our preventive maintenance contracts.
- In a pinch, you might want to purchase a portable air conditioner for use in your business, as a back-up plan.
